As the season turns from summer to fall, Alyssa reflects on her Maui Maine Summer - both in the garden and from the bong, Maui strains made this a summer to remember.

Maui, maui, maui... it is truly no secret how much I love Maui genetics. I have never experienced genetics that resonate with who I am as both a grower and a smoker so perfectly. As you may know, I have had the pleasure of testing strains outside for Dirty Bird Genetics the past few seasons - both born and bred Maine cultivars, and those in the running for future projects. I could not be happier with my results for veg for the Hawaiian Skunch (Dirty Bird Genetics) and Maui Daydream (Sticky Finger Seeds) this season. The Hawaiian Skunch has honestly been the most impressive out of my line up (18 strains). They've just started showing their pistils and I cannot wait to see what they do in bloom!

Notes from the Garden:

Both strains started out in 4x4 pots under T-5 lights as sprouts, then transplanted to 1 gallon pots, and moved outside in late June. I normally put my plants outside in early June, but due to travel this year put the plants out 2 weeks later than past schedules. The plants were then transplanted to 7 or 10 gallon pots depending on size, in a soil mix of Fox Farm's Happy Frog and Ocean Forest. I take care of each plant the same - simple well water every morning, and spaced appropriately to each get their fair share of the sun shine and fresh air! We have been lucky this year to have zero fungal or pest issues - I think the black landscaping fabric under the pots has helped with this immensely. We have been experiencing quite the heat wave and drought these past few weeks - think a week straight of 90 degree full sun days! Honestly, it's been rough out there for this New England gal! But, the Mauis? They LOVE it! Stay tuned for a bloom update!
