3 Tips For New Growers

When growing indoors, don’t overwater. Let the soil dry out between waterings.

Try growing regular seeds. Autoflower and feminized seeds are fine, but plants grown from regular seeds have high vigor and give you the chance to save your own seeds. It’s a myth that seeded weed is worthless! Sure, it’s a hassle to remove seeds, but the potency is still there, and may even be higher, depending on the plant.

When growing plants from regular seeds, you can have them tested to tell males from females after the plants are just 7 days old by purchasing sample kits from Farmer Freeman. It costs between $10-20 per sample, depending on how many plants you have tested, but this can save you a lot of money over the long run by “weeding” out unwanted male plants early in the grow.

Favorite Breeding Project

I purchased my original lamb’s breath seeds directly from growers in the hills above Negril, Jamaica. My first high potency lamb's breath plant tested 16.5% THC. Through selective line breeding of real males and females, I have increased the potency so that my plants consistently test between 25-30% THC, with high levels of lively, sweet, floral terpenes. I haven’t introduced any other genetics or made any crosses. It has been incredibly rewarding to keep the strain going using isolated natural landrace breeding methods, and to watch the plants grow. While I have done a number of successful indoor grows, there is nothing like seeing these lamb’s breath plants prosper in full sun and healthy, living soil! It brings joy to my heart to spend time with my plants, especially as they begin to flower! The buds glisten with trichomes and the odors are so enticing!

Story From The Garden

The most common insect that I've seen this year in my plots is the native ladybird beetle, or ladybug. I watch them weave in and out of the leaves and stems, hunting for pest eggs and larvae. I've observed several ladybug couples mating. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw them have little spasms, as they did their thing. The male was mounted on the female, and they would be still for a while, then, twitch, twitch, twitch, then stillness. Over and over again. After a few weeks, I began seeing ladybug larvae on the same plant, so I know that they were successful! Ladybug larvae are excellent hunters, too, so my plants are well protected!
